Bottle Baby Pictures
Lest I be swarmed and killed by you people for not providing kitten pictures, here they are! This is day 3 during feeding time - pictures are by [info]robots4dancing. Marco the Monster and Merlin are about 6 days old and Mandy is probably about 15 days. You can see in these pics that one of her eyes is open. The other one is getting there!

We found out a little more about where these babies came from. They're TNR babies, meaning they were picked up by people working with HSHV's Trap, Neuter and Release program. They'll grow up as house kittens, not as ferals - that's a good thing. :)

I'm tired, and it's only been a day. I don't know how people with human babies do this for months. Every 2 hours for almost the last 24, I've been feeding babies. The good news is, we have the goahead to start extending the time between feedings to 3 or 4 hours. Hopefully this will lead to more sleep for everyone!

Well it is good that they're not going to be feral, but why would TNR people pick up babies so young? I mean if it hadn't been for you guys, they'd have been killed. Doesn't it seem like they should have been left alone for a few more weeks and THEN trapped? Obviously nothing is for certain, but I'd rather risk not catching them again to them being killed.

All I know is that the director of the TNR program said that they couldn't stay where they were. Knowing the state that feral cats can be in, though, it's entirely possible that the mothers were sick, injured or killed. It's also possible that the kittens were somewhere that would lead to them being injured or killed if they stayed there - and you can't force a feral mother to move them somewhere safe. I trust the HSHV folks. Their first concern is for the welfare of the kittnes. They're not going to pull kittens in only to put them down - being feral is better than that. The director in question knows her stuff. If she said they couldn't stay, this was their best option. It's never ideal to raise them away from Mom, but we're doing the best we can.
